levels are just a small part, some use fake painting to show details which maybe good for the eye however the person knowing what is under the clothes originally will understand that this is fake.
for me i try showing what is really under the clothes, so it depends on the photo, dodge/burn/ exposure/levels / skin tone / blending colors / working with shadows and light/masks with colors to show you real details.
