It should be recoverable, just have to work a long weekend before I will have time to delve into the recovery. If I get a new OS on a seperate HD I should be able to put the old one in a case I have as an external and access it. Here is to hoping.

I remember the same happened to me, if I used another Windows installation I could not get to the documents part, I got around it by accessing the old drive with a linux installation, hope this may help...

Recovery
It was on a Mac. Just got a new install cd last night, did a new hd and started pulling things off the old drive. I have access to those files, just getting the applications and virus software installed first, which I am having some issues with. So in short looking good, if this dosen't work I do have a recovery tool that I have had success with in the past.
